WATCH: Zach Top Covers Merle Haggard During Unexpected Dive Bar Performance

Sometimes what happens in Nashville ends up on TikTok and Zach Top’s recent pop up performance at Music City Bar & Grill is proof.

The current ACM New Male Artist of the Year nominee made a surprise appearance at the Nashville dive bar located at 2416 Music Valley Dr earlier this week. Dressed down in jeans, a ball cap, and a pullover, the “Sounds Like The Radio” singer joined the house band for a performance of the Merle Haggard classic, “Ramblin’ Fever.”

A lucky patron named Sara was there to witness the unplanned pop up and captured it on video. Posting it to TikTok, she wrote, “Zach Top hopped on stage at my favorite dive bar in Nashville last night.”

As the video circulated online, fans expressed their disappointment in missing this rare chance to see the country star live in an intimate environment in the comments section.

“Dang! Sorry I missed it! Love this bar! Best traditional country music in TN,” one user wrote, while another added, “I would die.”

Top often covers “Ramblin’ Fever” during his live shows as well as other country classics like Keith Whitley’s “Kentucky Bluebird” and George Jones’ “The Love Bug.”

Leading the charge for keeping country music true to its roots, the 27 year old is currently climbing the charts with “I Never Lie,” a track that recently became his first-ever Top 5 hit and is well on its way to possibly clinching the No.1 spot at country radio.

This track is featured on Top’s debut album, Cole Beer & Country Music, which was released on April 5, 2024. The album drew praise for its roots in country music and comparisons to country greats like Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, and Keith Whitley.

According to the Washington native, the heart of country music lies in storytelling and he’s fully embracing it.

“Three chords and the truth are necessary. A fiddle and steel guitar never hurt. But it’s songs that make people feel something and something that’s got a story to it,” he recently told Billboard. “That’s what I love about country music — songs that make me feel understood, no matter what stage of life I’m in.”
