Priscilla Block has likely received tons of advice from various individuals while climbing up the ladder as a county artist. Unfortunately, she’s come out to reveal that not all of the words of wisdom bestowed upon her over the years has been good.
During a new episode of Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe from PodcastOne, Block opens up for the first time about a story that involved a fellow performer advising her to lose weight if she ever wanted to make a name for herself in the industry.
“There was this one night in Nashville. This was before I ever got signed or anybody really had any clue who I was. And I go to the bar,” she said before noting that she is named after Priscilla Presley, an important piece of information to keep in mind for this story.
Block continues, “So anyways, we go to the bar, and there is an Elvis impersonator. This guy, he’s dressed up as Elvis. And somehow, we get to talking. He’s telling me ‘oh, I’m in the music industry,’ like, I should have known, right?”
Elvis Impersonator Holds Nothing Back
The “Good On You” singer goes on to admit that at that point in her career, she was willing to take words of wisdom from just about anybody, even an Elvis impersonator.
“There was some switch that kind of flipped with him that night. And I don’t know if it was because I was kind of questioning him, like ‘oh, well, who do you work for? What do you do?’ And he was like, ‘I’m just here to tell you right now,’ he’s like, ‘if you’re trying to make it…you need to lose at least 30 pounds,’” Block revealed, causing a surge of shock and anger to wash over the podcast host.
Luckily, Block’s dad was present to witness this moment and immediately had her back after hearing the harsh words coming out of the strangers mouth.
“My dad was sitting right by me. When you think you saw fire in me, my dad almost went to jail that night. My dad kinda sees my face. He kinda saw what he said, and he slides the drinks over…He goes, ‘what did you just say?’ And he’s, like, ‘I was just telling her, like, if she’s trying to make it, she needs to lose 30 pounds.’ My dad… I was like, woah, woah, woah. It was bad.
This dude went running, truly. And I’m like, my dad’s gonna kill him. My dad is going to kill him. So I grabbed my dad, I called an Uber or a taxi at the time, I don’t even know. I threw my dad in that Uber, and I was like, ‘we need to go.’ And my dad was fuming the entire time. It was pretty embarrassing, but it was kind of iconic.”
A Reminder To Stay True To Herself
This experience brought the North Carolina native back to something her mom has always said, which is to “never take advice from someone that is impersonating somebody else or isn’t truly authentic to who they are.”
Block may have felt plenty of rage and anger in that moment, however she is now able to look back and laugh at the irony of the situation.
“I kinda wish my dad would’ve knocked him out that night, but it’s okay…Not Elvis giving Priscilla advice. Like, come on. Come on,” she added with a laugh.
2025 Is The Year Of ‘Working On Me’
Plus, despite Elvis’ advice, it’s safe to say that Block has been able to build a very successful career just by being her authentic self. And she will continue to see growth both personally and professionally, as she has decided to dedicate 2025 to the year of bettering herself.
For her, this looks like saying no to people, food, opportunities and anything else that doesn’t serve her positively, as well as honing in on her health journey which she has been sharing candidly online with her fanbase.
“I really want to spend this year working on me,” she admitted.
