Lily Rose Talks ‘I Know What I Want’ And Her Bold New Musical Chapter [Exclusive]

Lily Rose confidently steps into a new chapter with her new song, “I Know What I Want,” out now.

A late night on the bus and a couple beers with songwriters Paul DiGiovanni, Andy Albert, Emily Weisband, Jaxson Free and Taylor Phillips led to the creation of this pop-country track that introduces a fresh vibe from Rose.

As a newly independent artist, “I Know What I Want” is the perfect first taste of the Georgia native’s next musical chapter. She ropes listeners in with her signature country twang seeping through her vocals sitting above the background instrumentals before tapping into her hip-hop influences with a set of confidence-soaked beats.

In her previous release, “Let You Know When I Get There,” Rose showcased a softer side to her artistry as she delivered a promise to ease her mama’s mind by always keeping her up to date on her whereabouts. But with “I Know What I Want,” she takes a more hard-hitting, upbeat approach while letting her ex know that she’s done playing games and is moving on for good.

Rose sings, “I know what I want and I don’t want you/ I’ve been down this road you ain’t nothing new/ Don’t need another night of this déjà vu/ I know what I want and I don’t want you/ You wanted time you wanted space/ Now that you’re gone I want the same/ Don’t be coming round begging for round two/ Cause I know what I want and I don’t want you.”

Prior to its release, the songstress caught up with Country Now and shared why this particular song is slated to be a special one in her catalog.

“I’m so pumped about this one. I just mentioned that ‘Let You Know When I Get There’ is a song we put out in January that is very ballad-y country gold. I didn’t write it, it was songwriters that pitched it to me and I love it and it showcases one side of me. And then ‘I Know What I Want’ really gives the pop, hip hop side of me,” she explained. “Being from Atlanta, I grew up in the rap scene with my dad and all of that. So it was just really cool to finally put out a song that’s got that hip hop thing to it. So I’m excited. We wrote that song at three in the morning on the bus after a couple of beers, so I’m glad it came to the fruition that it did.”

“I Know What I Want” is just the beginning of the plethora of new music Lily Rose has in store for the year, and it will come to life throughout her extended 2025 Runnin’ Outta Time headlining tour this spring.

Lily Rose Shares Her Theme For 2025

When discussing what fans can expect from her upcoming releases, Rose shared that there will be a lot of different sounds emerging as she pulls from her influences of various genres. One thing is for sure, every tune she puts out in 2025 will perfectly capture her as a person and as an artist.

“I think the theme for me is that I feel like I can do a lot of things. I feel like I’m extremely influenced growing up in Atlanta, going to school in Athens and living in Nashville by every genre. And I think that all of the music that we have coming, none of it is similar. None of the songs sound the same at all, but they all feel very Lily,” she said. “I hate talking in third person like that, but they do. It feels very much like me. So nothing about it is going to make you question like, ‘oh, does this fit on the project?’ I feel like it’s all songs I’ve written, and they really embody me.”

Extended Tour, New Setlist

Her headlining run kicked off last fall with 24 packed shows that welcomed plenty of repeat fans, according to the rising star. Rose noticed that as she bounced around to different cities, familiar faces continued to show up, so now, she’s working to change up her performances so that anyone who attended a show last year can come see her again in 2025 and get a whole new experience.

“I’m trying to make sure that they know that it’s not going to be the same show. I think of the 19 songs we’re doing, we’re only going to keep 14 of ’em. We’re going to change some stuff out, change the covers, might do a song or two that I’m a writer on that somebody else cut. So I’m really excited for that set list to finally be revealed.”
