LANCO Shares the Stories Behind Their Raw and Real New Album ‘We’re Gonna Make It’ [Exclusive]

LANCO has returned with their first full-length project since 2018’s award winning debut album, Halleluiah Nights. Out now via Riser House Records is their sophomore album, We’re Gonna Make It. This 14-track collection marks a powerful comeback for the band, delivering a heartfelt dose of honesty.

When LANCO started building out their newest project, they quickly realized that there was a reoccurring theme of reflection and nostalgia laced throughout the songs that touched on many of their real-life events. Lead vocalist Brandon Lancaster shared with Country Now that the themes of honesty and resilience woven throughout the album weren’t intentionally planned but came together organically. Once the title track was recorded, their newest body of work finally felt complete.

“It was one of those things where there was this theme that started unraveling because when you start a record, at least for us, you kind of start writing and the songs just started unfolding,” he shared. “And when we started getting towards the end of the record realizing there was kind of this theme of real-life stuff and stuff that we had been through and touching on these things, but there was always this thread of hope and this spread of perseverance. And then when we recorded ‘We’re Gonna Make It,’ which we’d actually written earlier, but we recorded at the end, it was like, ‘oh, I think that this sums it up.’ Whether it’s ‘Low Class Lovers’ or ‘Honey I Lost My Job Today’ or any of these songs, it’s the ultimate idea that with that person hand-in-hand next to you that you’re going to make it through this valley.”

While they didn’t have a clear idea of the direction this album would take at first, they make it a point right from the start to pour complete honesty into their songwriting in hopes of connecting with their fans in a deeper way.

“I like to say that even though you do meet and greets, you get to meet fans every now and then, the biggest way they get to know you is through your music. And so it really is a thing where it’s like, hey, we’re putting out this record and it’s been a long time since people have heard from us. We need to let ’em know what we’ve been up to. And so it kind of became this autobiographical thing that became important to us.”

Inside Latest Single, “We Grew Up Together”

Among the 14 tracks are previously released singles and fan-favorites like “Low Class Lovers,” “Sound of a Saturday Night” and their latest single, “We Grew Up Together” featuring GRAMMY-nominated Christian artist Cory Asbury.

Penned by Brandon Lancaster, Chandler Baldwin, Tripp Howell, and Jared Hampton, along with Cory Asbury, “We Grew Up Together” adds an extra dose of sincerity to the collection. It finds the group combining their experiences with parenthood and celebrating the growth that comes along with that journey.

“We kind of started talking about life and he (Corey) started talking about how he had a kid and I kid and we just start talking about families. Then he had mentioned that his kid was like 16. We’re the same age. I was like, ‘oh whoa, you started way younger,’ and he did start young. He was like, ‘man, yeah, we kind of grew up together.’ And when he said that I instantly resonated with it because although I was older than him, when I had my first kid, we had the exact same experience. This kind of experience of ‘hey, it’s time to figure life out,” Lancaster explained. “You think you’re a grownup and then when you have kids, it’s a different kind of grownup.”

These powerful lyrics dive headfirst into the idea that a parent is learning right alongside their kids and trying to grasp that understanding that even though they are responsible for raising that child, they’re not perfect. Lancaster added that while writing “We Grew Up Together,” it felt as if they were simultaneously penning a letter to their kids.

“God forbid if anything happens, it’s like here’s this letter of ‘hey, I wasn’t perfect.’ And even people that don’t have kids, I think it’s also important that…we look at their parents [and] think there was these grand, wise people when they’re younger, then you grow up and realize they were just people…it’s a really special song and that’s been a fun one to see people resonate with and share their stories of either of their parents or their own experiences In parenthood.”

That same sentiment comes alive in the accompanying music video featuring real-life footage of the chart-topping band with their children, including many of those milestone moments of growing up.
