Kelsea Ballerini Pauses Concert To Shut Down A Negative Trend

Kelsea Ballerini is calling out fans who continue to shame her ex-husband Morgan Evans during her live shows.

The country star went through a very public divorce from Evans back in 2022, and reflected on the pain of that experience through her Rolling Up The Welcome Mat EP. Many of the tracks off this project have become a powerful outlet for listeners going through heartbreak to along to during her current headlining tour, Kelsea Ballerini LIVE. And while the songstress has made it clear she loves being a part of the healing process for so many in her crowds, there is a trend that has been going around, particularly with the song “Penthouse,” that she does not support.

A set of new videos have surfaced online from her recent performance at Florida’s Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, where she stopped the show to ask fans to stop yelling out “F U Morgan” as a diss to her former husband.

Ballerini can be heard delivering the story that airs out many of the issues they faced at the end of their relationship, including the lonely process of packing up their previously shared residence. As she sings the bridge, “It hurts putting s**t in a box/ And now we don’t talk/ And it stings rolling up the welcome mat” fans help finish out the line and show their support by Ballerini by belting out the words, “Knowing you got half.”

She generally pauses for a second after moving onto the chorus to take in all the emotions in the room and build anticipation for the loud sing-along that’s about to erupt on the next set of lyrics. However, during Sunday’s show she instead took this time to express her disapproval over the fan who chose to yell out the negative comment regarding Evans.

The “Cowboys Cry Too” singer paused, shook her head “no” and then told her fans, “We have to stop saying that. Seriously. We’re three years past it, everything’s fine now. I sing this song for you now. It’s not about me anymore, please, please.”

Stepping forward, she asked “For everyone that’s moving forward with their life, will you sing this with me?” before finishing out the healed version of the fan-favorite tune.

This isn’t the first time Ballerini has attempted to shut down this trend. At the very start of her 2025 run, she shook her head at a fan who took part in the negativity. Many of her listeners have opted to stay away from yelling the profanities, as they are happy to support the fact that both Ballerini and Evans have moved on with their lives. Evans has continued to make music and live his life while the songstress is in a happy relationship with Outer Banks star Chase Stokes.

A slew of fans took to the comment sections of the recent posts and made it a point to encourage others to respect her request.

“I just don’t get why people are still saying it, she has asked multiple times for people to stop saying it 🙄 I dont get why people can’t respect her and listen to her.”

“why can’t people just respect her. i don’t understand.”

“I love that she called them out. THATS healing.”

“People forget that was her husband.. for multiple years. You can still respect someone even though you got a divorce and she’s doing exactly that.”

Anyone planning to attend a Kelsea Ballerini show in the future might want to take her request seriously, as fans have expressed the fear that she may take “Penthouse” out of the setlist if the trend continues.

“She’s going to have to stop singing this song all because people won’t stop saying it 😔,” a user commented.

“Ugh I hate that people like that are going to ruin this for the girlies who need the healing experience of hearing this live 💔,” another added.

The headlining run continues this weekend with a stop at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX on February 26.
