Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan joke about their streak of consecutive losses ahead of the 2025 GRAMMY Awards.
In the past year, the pair of artists have received three nominations at various award shows for their soulful collaboration “Cowboys Cry Too,” including Musical Event of the Year at 2024 CMA Awards, Crossover Song of 2024 at the People’s Choice Awards, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the GRAMMYs. Unfortunately, they have yet to take home a win.
While walking the red carpet at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday (Feb. 2), Ballerini and Kahan learned that they had lost their chance to take home yet anther trophy when Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus were named winners of Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “II Most Wanted.” Despite adding a third loss under their belt, the artists were able to make light of the situation.

Fans saw the “Patterns” singer take to her Instagram stories to ask Kahan, “Noah, what does it feel like to lose three awards for the same song?”
“You actually weirdly start to kinda like it,” he replied. “So I’m on a losing high right now. Woo-hoo!”
“See you at the Grammys!” Ballerini added with a laugh.

“Cowboys Cry Too” was up against “II Most Wanted” as well as “Break Mine” (Brothers Osborne), “Bigger Houses” (Dan + Shay) and “I Had Some Help” (Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen).
Ballerini has been nominated for five Grammys throughout her career, while the “Sticks Season” singer has received two nods. Neither has taken home a gramophone yet.
The pair’s collaboration appears on Ballerini’s 2024 album PATTERNS. Upon its release, the powerful tune instantly became a fan-favorite and saw the duet partners showcasing it live on stage at several major award shows.
Finding A New Perspective On Winning And Losing
Reflecting on her younger self, Ballerini admitted to SiriusXM that she would have been deeply disappointed by this loss, as “certain things” used to make her “cry myself to sleep.”
However, she has since gained a new perspective that allows her to feel more confident in herself and care less about the opinions of others.
“I don’t win things,” she said. “I mean, that sounds really, I don’t, and I’m cool with it … now I’ve changed my relationship with all of it where I’m like, ‘Okay, well people identify country music in different ways.’”
Now, Ballerini chooses to place more value on writing her “truth.” She also added that there’s “so much else” that goes into award shows than the trophies given out, and that sometimes it’s the opportunities and experiences that feel like the true wins.

“And for me, if you get nominated, that means that sometimes if you’re lucky, you get three and a half minutes to sing on a show like the CMAs or the ACMs or the CMTs, you know, and that’s an award,” she explained. “That’s an award.”
Now that she’s “rewired her brain,” Ballerini reveals she is happy to just be present and celebrate her friends/fellow artists.
“I’m good with it,” she concluded.
The East Tennessee native stunned on the red carpet in a dazzling black dress just days after delivering a milestone performance at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Friday, Jan. 31. This show took place as part of her 2025 headlining tour that will continue to welcome fans to arenas across the U.S. through April.
