The fans spoke, and Russell Dickerson listened. Following last year’s release of the heart pounding love song, “Bones,” listeners began putting in their requests for a stripped-down version that could be played during a couple’s big day. Today, the moment has finally come for Dickerson to do just that with the stunning wedding version of “Bones.”
“That’s the main was like, ‘we need a wedding version of ‘Bones.’’ And I was like, ‘bet- I’m on it,’” Dickerson joked.

The original release offers powerful mid-tempo melody and builds into a energetic anthem as the Tennessee native professes his love to his wife, Kailey, while emphasizing his lifelong commitment to loving her until the day he dies. In his new version, that same sentiment is portrayed, but in a more acoustic fashion that features just the sounds of delicate piano keys and a string quartet among Dickerson’s baritone vocals.
“I feel like I was letting the original version have its life and I mean, it’s still cruising and so this just feels like the right time, especially Valentine’s Day,” Dickerson told Country Now while speaking on the timing of his new release.
The love story behind these lyrics came alive in a music video unveiled last October, which found Russell Dickerson acting as a friend documenting moments of a young couple’s wedding day. Pure love radiated throughout the footage that brought them from the church to the rowdy after party. Dickerson’s other half also made a cameo in several portions of the video. At the very end, viewers got to see another kind of love story evolve much later in life that still held the same passion as the young couple, if not more.
“It was just such a cool concept to me of being the star of the video, but also not. I was in it a lot, but it was like this couple was the star and I was like the friend videoing in it all. When I saw that treatment, I was like, oh, that’s so cool. Such a cool way to capture a love story,” he explained. “We shot for I think two days doing all that and the old couple was so sweet. They weren’t married, they just met, they had the kids and everything.”
Once he officially announced the news that “Bones” would be coming to life in a brand-new way, fans were sent into a frenzy of excitement. Many revealed that they are looking forward to using the stripped-down version in their own wedding while others noted that they love the new rendition so much they might just have to tie the knot again in order to use the song.
This is not the first time Dickerson has released a wedding version of one of his fan-favorite releases. He also previously stripped down “Yours” and “Love You Like I Used To.” Along with seeing videos fans have posted using his music on their big day, the country singer revealed he actually had the pleasure of surprising a couple of fans by performing the wedding version of “Yours” live at their nuptials.
“We were down, it was like an Oceanside town, somewhere down south. We were opening up for Luke Bryan, I think, and we played early enough that we could still go make the wedding because a bunch of the wedding party was tweeting. They were like, ‘yo, this is the wedding, this is the address, you’re in town. We know you’re in town. You better be here,’” he recalled. “And so me, a videographer, my wife, we all hopped into Uber and went to the wedding and literally found the wedding planner and was like, ‘yo, we’re here. Let’s make this happen.’ And so they did. They were like, ‘okay, we need the couple outside.’ And I was plugged into the DJ booth and we just ripped ‘Yours’ right there.”
Putting The Final Touches On A New Project
Fans have a lot more to be excited for as the dad of two revealed he has just finished putting vocals on what he believes to be the final song for his yet-to-be-announced album.
“It is rolling and hopefully, it’ll be in some part of Q3 that’ll be dropping,” he hinted.
Across social media, he has shared snippets of unreleased songs like the rowdy party anthem that’s taking over the internet, “Happen to Me” and the incredibly emotional ode to fatherhood, “Famous Back Home.” These tunes and more are setting the tone for this forthcoming project.
“I’ve found this new part of my voice. I have a naturally low voice, and I think for so long I wanted the songs to feel so high energy and exciting and singing low didn’t feel that way. Now it’s like there’s this higher energy, but I don’t have to sing so high and whatever. So it’s like, I really am proud and excited about the vocals, specifically on this album,” Dickerson admitted.
“The songs, I mean, there’s some rock hammers, there’s some like, ‘Famous Back Home,’ just your good old family country song, and there’s a few of those on there that are the [tug at your] heartstrings, just good old country songs,” he continued. “And then there’s some not old country songs on there, but that’s Russell Dickerson. I’m influenced heavily by country, but also by rock and pop and hip hop and all these other elements that will always be incorporated into my music.”
