Darius Rucker Announces Big Move to London

Rucker first teased his big move on January 21 via social media when he shared a photo of himself walking his two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The photo was paired with an image of a city skyline and a closer look at the picture reveals the London Eye in the background.

“So Freddie, Larry and I are doing a thing. Any guesses?,” he asked his followers.

Several guessed his location, predicting he was possibly walking in Hyde Park, while others welcomed him to the United Kingdom based on the photos.

Days later, he revealed that he caught the London production of MAMMA MIA! During a night out on the down.

“Had a great time in London at the Novello Theatre watching Mamma Mia,” the chart-topping star wrote alongside a photo of him looking dapper in a brown overcoat.

It wasn’t until January 29 that Rucker officially confirmed his move.

He wrote, “I can’t move to London and not play UK shows! Do you have your tickets yet? Limited VIP packages still available. See you soon!”

Whether it’s for personal or professional reasons, his move has sparked curiosity among fans, who flooded the comments section of his post asking why he moved and if it is permanent.

This marks a big change for Rucker, who has deep ties to Charleston, but it seems the excitement of a new chapter in London is something he’s looking forward to.

Rucker has always spoken highly of his hometown of Charleston, recently telling The Greenville News,  “It’s just where I’m supposed to be. I like the people a lot. My family’s here; my brothers and sisters are here. I still live here because I feel like when I get off my bus, when I get off the plane, I feel like it’s home. So I think that’s where God wants me to be.”

Last fall, he brought his music festival, Darius Rucker’s Riverfront Revival, to North Charleston for the third time, delivering a set with Hootie & The Blowfish on the final night of the two- day event.

The platinum-selling artist’s next scheduled show is set for March 13 in London when he’s scheduled to perform alongside Jessi Alexander, Wyatt Flores, Mickey Guyton, and Tucker Wetmore for the CMA Songwriters Series as part of C2C: Country to Country Festival.

Rucker’s big move comes just months after the release of his memoir, Life’s Too Short, which shares a raw and real look at his life and career.

“I always said that if I ever wrote the book, I was going to be honest as I could be,” he shared during a conversation with Country Now and other outlets. “There’s some stuff that’s over the top, but I just wanted to tell the story and I wanted people to understand the hard stuff and the good stuff. All this stuff made me who I am today and so when I was writing the book, I wanted it to be you to read it like we were sitting at a bar and I telling you my life story and so that’s how we wrote it.”

Life’s Too Short and his latest album, Carolyn’s Boy, are available now.
