Carly Pearce has spent the last month traveling across Europe for her headlining hummingbird world tour. Unfortunately, just before this leg of the tour is set to come to a close, the singer/songwriter has fallen ill with the flu. Despite feeling unwell, she was determined to give her fans a memorable experience as these shows as some of the biggest, sold out shows of her career so far.
Ahead of her show in Birmingham, UK, she made a last-minute decision to switch to a stripped-down set, as she felt she wouldn’t be able to deliver her usual full-band performance at her best. She revealed the news to fans while on stage, promising to deliver the best show she can despite the circumstances.

“I woke up yesterday morning, we’ve been gone for a month traveling around and I felt it and I was like, sh**,” she shared. “I’ve been trying all day. I’ve been like, ‘It’s okay. It’s going to be fine. It’s going to be fine.’”
Despite her determination to push through, Pearce ultimately admitted, “it’s just not fine.”

“I don’t feel like I’m giving you the best if we play a big full band set because I’m fighting,” she admitted. “However, what we’re about to do, I got with the band and my crew earlier, like five minutes before the show. I was like, I don’t know if I can do this. We’re going to do a little bit more stripped down of all the songs.”
Though frustrated by the situation, she leaned on her team’s support and reassured the audience that she wasn’t going anywhere, vowing to make the night special.
“What’s funny, I was almost crying before the show. I was so upset because I’m a human being, but it’s so upsetting to be like, ‘no, this can’t happen.’ I’ve so looked forward to these shows,” she explained.
“But do you know what everybody in my crew in my band said? They said, Birmingham is going to love you.”
Pearce was met with cheers as she asked, “are you with us.”
Earlier in the day, Pearce shared a message with fans, and promised to move forward with the shows.
“With the help of my doctor & team, we WILL finish out this tour strong and I will give you EVERYTHING I have. Manchester, Belfast, Glasgow & Dublin- if the shows look a little different, know that I promise to show up each night giving you my all,” she wrote.
The Kentucky native also asked fans to pray for her as she navigates these final shows while ill.

Just last week, Pearce revealed plans to release hummingbird: no rain, no flowers, a deluxe version of her critically acclaimed fourth studio album. Out on March 14, this new release will include five brand-new tracks, including the just-released “no rain.” Click below to listen.
