Jelly Roll is taking on a bigger role on American Idol! After serving as a mentor last season, the country star has been promoted to the show’s first-ever artist in residence for the upcoming season.
So what does that mean? Jelly will be heavily involved during Hollywood Week, working closely with contestants and providing firsthand advice on how to navigate their journey on Idol.
This is the second major shake-up for American Idol this season, following the addition of Carrie Underwood as a judge to replace Katy Perry. With Carrie joining the panel alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie (who has dabbled in country himself), is Idol leaning even more into country music?
Fans can catch a 30-minute sneak preview of American Idol right after the Oscars on March 2nd, with the official season premiere airing March 9th on ABC.
