Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter, Emmy Russell, has welcomed her first child, a baby girl whose name has yet to be revealed. The 26-year-old’s partner, Tyler Ward, broke the news on Saturday (Feb. 1), with a sentimental clip of him holding his newborn at just 12 hours old in the hospital room.
A few days after welcoming their bundle of joy, Ward returned to social media to give followers an update and in doing so, he revealed that the birth has not been an easy journey for Russell.
“I just want to update everybody. Emmy we can’t post so I’m posting on her behalf. We got to the hospital Wednesday evening when Emmy’s water broke. Gave birth Friday morning at 2:30 AM and it was a really, really tough situation and she’s still here in the hospital,” he shared.
Ward went on to explain that they almost got discharged from the hospital, however, an unexpected complication arose that forced them to stay. He turned the camera to show Russell lying in bed with her newborn in her arms and prompted her to share more about her current status.
“So we almost got discharged and I was feeling woozy. I got up and I thought it was going to pass out. So they told me that I lost a liter of blood and I had to get a blood transfusion. So we’re going to test again and see if I have to get more blood.”
Even though she is still fighting to regain her health, Russell confirmed that “it’s gonna be worth it.”
In another Instagram story, the American Idol alum gushed over how much love she feels for her growing family and credited Ward for being so supportive through it all.
The post featured a black and white photo of Ward cradling their baby girl. Her message read, “I am so in love with these two…dad is amazing while mom is healing .. this is not glamorous, lots of tears and frustration, body pain that I’m feeling, but dad is pulling through on my behalf. Feeling super grateful tonight…excited to share baby she is sooo beautiful. I’ve cried lots of tears when I look at her.”

Before arriving at the hospital on Wednesday (Jan. 29), the pair shared a joint Instagram post honoring their last night as a couple before officially becoming parents. Russell documented the end of the chapter through a slideshow of photos documenting highlights from their relationship.
“Tonight us, tomorrow parents. Can’t wait to see who you are as a dad and who I am as a mom, but know I’ll always cherish when it was just us 🤍,” she wrote.
Russell announced the life-changing news back in December while appearing as a guest on a live episode of the Got It From My Momma Podcast with her mom, Patsy Russell.
“Y’all, me and Tyler [Ward] are expecting a baby girl,” she shared as Ward ran on stage to rub her belly and give her a tight hug.
The emerging artist was candid about the fact that it had been quite a busy year for her as she found out about her pregnancy shortly after wrapping up her time as a finalist on season 22 of the singing competition show.
“So I’m so excited…right out of ‘American Idol,’ I didn’t know. So that’s kind of been the journey,” she added.
The world fell in love with Russell’s voice when she performed her original song, “Skinny” during her Idol audition. From there, she continued to win judges over with a mix of powerful original tunes and covers of her late grandmother’s hits.

Tyler Ward launched his career when he began posting covers and original songs to YouTube in 2010, which led him to appearing on several tours over the years and performing with major musical acts various genres. Along the way, he co-founded his current Nashville venture, Song House, an organization dedicated to bringing songwriters and creators together and acting as a “haven” where they can collaborate, share their talents and connect with like-minded individuals.
The couple has been fairly tight-lipped about how their relationship formed, but they did let fans in on their budding connection back in June when a join Instagram post went live featuring a carousel of mirror selfies together.
“Classified. For now…” Russell captioned the post, which was set to Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good.”
A few months prior, Ward released a preview of what he deemed to be “his first love song in a long time” and his other half.
Emmy Russell has had a whirlwind of a year, from her journey on American Idol to making her Grand Ole Opry debut and now, becoming a mom. It’s unclear what her music will look like going forward, but fans are eager to see what’s next for the songstress and her growing family.
