Grand Ole Opry member Chris Janson performed at the Helping a Hero Salute to America Brunch earlier this week and surprised a United States veteran with a brand new home.
The event, which took place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. and was co-sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, honored American veterans, including former U.S. Marine, Mark “Oz” Geist, who is known for saving 25 lives during the Benghazi attack.
Now the bestselling co-author of 13 Hours and a security and military consultant, Geist was honored by Janson, who shared the news that he would receive a specially adapted new home.

“Honoring Mark Geist and all of our incredible heroes is the reason I’m proud to support Helping A Hero,” Janson shared. “It’s a privilege to be part of an event that truly changes lives and seeing the joy of giving back to someone who has sacrificed so much is what it’s all about. Music is powerful, but so is action—and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help provide a home that will make a real difference in the lives of our American heroes.”
During the event, Janson performed his hits like “Good Vibes,” “Buy Me A Boat,” and “All American Guy.” Additionally, attendees participated in a special auction that raised over $70,000 for Helping A Hero, featuring a VIP Experience Package generously donated by Janson.
“Helping A Hero is honored to recognize true American heroes like Mark Geist, whose courage and sacrifice inspire us all,” Meredith Iler, Founder of Helping A Hero, stated. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters like Chris Janson we are able to make a real difference in the lives of wounded veterans by providing specially adapted homes that offer the freedom and independence they deserve. Together, we are showing our heroes that their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

While visiting Washington, D.C., Janson was honored with a 5x Platinum certification for his smash hit “Buy Me a Boat” during a special presentation by RIAA Chairman & CEO Mitch Glazier and Chief Policy Officer Morna Willens. The event took place on Monday at RIAA’s headquarters as part of a celebration tied to the Presidential Inauguration benefiting Musicians On Call.
“We don’t take these moments for granted … to recognize the incredible hard work and creative talent of an artist like Chris Janson. Congratulations on the now 5x Platinum hit ‘Buy Me a Boat!’” Glazier said. “RIAA is honored to acknowledge not only this single, but his drive to ensure that all musicians can thrive. From the ELVIS Act in Tennessee to the federal NO FAKES Act, which protect the fundamental uniqueness of a person’s voice and likeness from irresponsible AI, we are proud of Chris’s continued advocacy.”
“It was an awesome time in the RIAA house and a complete surprise receiving the 5x Platinum award for ‘Buy Me A Boat.’ I’m totally humbled and grateful,” Janson added.
Multi-Platinum country star is set to open for Kid Rock on his upcoming tour. Details can be found on Janson’s official website.
