Parker McCollum returns to his reckless, bad-boy days in the new music video for his chart-climbing single, “What Kinda Man.”
Directed by CMA and ACM-Award winner Dustin Haney, the cinematic clip finds the country star living out his carefree life by speeding down the open roads and holding up his reputation as a regular at the local dive bar. Interlaced between the action-packed footage, viewers see a whole different side to McCollum – one that’s cleaned up his act and his look and has found his way back to the Union Valley Church he swore he’d never step foot in again.
He illustrates this transition while singing, “I swore that I would never step foot back/ Inside the Union Valley church again/ But here I stand just north of Oklahoma/ Tryin’ to wash away my sins/ I know damn well what I ought to do/ I have to have you, I just can’t stand to lose/ Ah, baby, here we go one more time/ You know I’ll love you if you let me ’til the end of the line.”
These various looks capture the true meaning behind the song that closely follows McCollum’s real-life story. Before meeting his now wife, Hallie Ray Light, the Texas native admittingly was enjoying the freedom of his wild ways. However, the moment that girl walked into his life, the same way we see her do in the music video, he was suddenly willing to do anything it took to be the kind of man that she needed him to be.
“Yeah, I’ve been runnin’ so damn long/ There ain’t a woman who could settle me down/ Wilder than a bat out of hell/ Off the rails and blazin’ through town/ But then you walk in floatin’ on air/ And you look across the room at me/ Forget the man I am, what kind of man do you need?” McCollum continues onto the chorus.
In addition to Hallie Ray’s cameo, viewers who watch closely might also catch the subtle Easter eggs implemented throughout the video using his wardrobe. First McCollum offers a subtle nod to his catalog of hits with the singed white t-shirt from his ACM Award-winning Haney-directed music video for “Burn It Down” and then teases his third performance at the famed RODEOHOUSTON on March 21 with a silver Houston Rodeo bomber jacket.

“Excited for y’all to see this one! Working with Dustin has been such an incredible creative partnership. He has such a great eye for what I’m trying to accomplish and always over delivers. This video for ‘What Kinda Man’ was a whole lot of fun to make and I hope y’all enjoy it,” shared McCollum.
Penned by McCollum alongside Natalie Hemby and Jeremy Spillman, “What Kinda Man” serves as the follow-up to McCollum’s four consecutive No. 1 singles – “Pretty Heart,” “To Be Loved By You,” “Handle On You,” and “Burn It Down.” It also marks the first look at the new music he has in store for 2025.

Parker McCollum is less than a week away from embarking on his What Kinda Man Tour on January 23 in Athens, GA. He will make his way to some of the most iconic venues in the country in addition to performing at various festivals this summer.
