Megan Moroney experienced a major full-circle moment when her latest full-length project, “Am I Okay?” was named 2024’s third-biggest debut from a female Country artist. This feat put her just behind Beyoncé and Kacey Musgraves, an artist whose work inspired Moroney to start her over songwriting journey over 10 years ago.
She was a freshman in high school when Musgraves unveiled her debut album, Same Trailer, Different Park. Listening to tracks like “Merry Go ‘Round” sparked something in Moroney that compelled her to start turning her own stories into songs. Going from this dreamer stage to having her music categorized right next to Musgraves is understandably surreal for the Georgia native.
“Anything with Kacey next to it freaks me out, because she’s the reason I wanted to write songs,” Moroney shared in an interview with NME. “She’s such a smart writer and I fell in love with it,” she adds of Musgraves’ debut album.

Moroney And Musgraves’ Connection Highlighted At The Country Music Hall Of Fame
Back in February of 2024, the “Indifferent” singer shared a blurry throwback photo of her and Musgraves to Instagram in honor of her display in the “Unbroken Circle” section of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual exhibit, American Currents: State of the Music. The “Unbroken Circle” portion highlights connections between artists and an individual who has made a significant impact on their career. Fittingly, Moroney was featured alongside Musgraves.
A variety of significant items were selected as display to best highlight Moroney’s rapid rise to fam, including wardrobe pieces from her iconic “Tennessee Orange” music video, the boots she wore for her Grand Ole Opry debut (complete with spray tan marks, as she pointed out), Kacey Musgraves’ “Pageant Material” tiara and sash, and more.
Moroney documented her first visit to the section with a social media post featuring a slideshow of images, including her nostalgic photo wit Musgraves.
Her caption read, “thank you @countrymusichof for including me in the American Currents: State of the Music exhibit! Truly honored & it’s open now so yall go check it out!! (the 2nd photo was 10 years ago… don’t give up 🥹❤️)”

Thanks to Musgrave’s influence, Megan Moroney has become one of the biggest growing names in country music and continues to be recognized for her outstanding songwriting ability.
The past week, she has been on vacation and enjoying her days on “island time,” but assured fans that she will be back to writing songs in no time. Even while soaking up the sun, Moroney teased an unreleased tune that could appear on her next project.
“For MM3,” she captioned the post, hinting at her yet-to-be-announced third studio album.
