The Castellows left fans in awe with their breathtaking rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of the Atlanta Falcons game on Sunday (Jan. 5).
The sister trio, hailing from Georgetown, Georgia, just 160 miles south of Atlanta, stepped onto the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to deliver a powerful performance of the National Anthem. Their moving tribute came just moments before the Falcons’ final regular season matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
In a video shared on social media, the sisters, Ellie, Powell and Lily, sported laid-back matching looks, wearing jeans, boots and Falcons jerseys for the performance. A group of service members stood behind them as did a massive American flag held by what appeared to be service members and veterans.
The trio’s stunning harmonies brought tears to the eyes of many onlookers, including several NFL players.
After the game, where the Panthers secured a 44-38 victory over the Falcons, The Castellows looked back on their performance and shared that they felt significant pressure leading up to the big moment.
“First time ever singing the national anthem DONE! Big thanks to the @atlantafalcons for letting us help close out the @nfl regular season❤️🖤 we were honestly so scared for this one but we made it and are so proud to honor our country in this way,” they collectively shared alongside a video of their performance.
The group also clarified: “Instagram reels can only be 90 seconds which is why the last line cuts out.”
They truly knocked this performance out of the park, earning praise from fans and fellow artists.
Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild deemed the performance “AMAZING,” while Mitchell Tenpenny declared, “Y’all crushed it.”
Others called the performance “perfection” and claimed it was “gorgeous.”
Just weeks before their big national anthem performance, The Castellows shared a new three-song “mini EP” called Alabama Stone. The project was released in early December and includes the title track as well as “Place to Leave,” and “Girl That Boy.”
“We are always so thankful to put out new music and we are especially excited about these songs,” they shared of the project.
The sisters revealed that the songs were inspired by the way they grew up.
“Like pretty much everything we write, these songs are a testament to our roots and where we come from. Our hometown borders the state of Alabama, so in many ways we also feel like we are from both Georgia and Alabama,” they explained. “Our grandmother lives in a log cabin in the country in Alabama. The original room in the cabin has a fireplace with a stone in the center shaped like the state of Alabama. Lily saw this and thought Alabama Stone would be an interesting title for a song. That’s how the idea for the song was born, and we thought it was most fitting to be the title track of this EP.”
2024 was an exciting year for the trio, who had the opportunity to embark on an arena tour opening for Sugarland and Little Big Town.
Later this year, they will appear on select dates of Thomas Rhett’s Better In Boots Tour.
