February is Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month.

Our Furry Friday Pet of the Week is Hot Coco, an albino bunny at the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center. Hot Coco’s adoption fee is only $1, and he comes with supplies, including a crate, exercise pen, and hay!

Rabbits are social creatures and need exercise and playtime, so having an exercise pen for Hot Cocoa means he will get lots of room to hop around!

Like black dogs and cats, red-eyed white bunnies are unfairly overlooked at animal shelters. Their condition makes them stand out, allowing predators to hunt them more easily in the wild so adoption is a lifesaver for rabbits like Hot Cocoa.

When you adopt a red-eyed white rabbit, it pays to know a few basics. First and foremost, you’ll need to protect their eyes from the sun or ultraviolet light, as their eyes lack pigment and can be easily damaged. Ensure they have plenty of indoor time and provide lots of love, attention, and cuddles.

Don’t forget that rabbits are smart too!  They can learn their names and be litter-trained, making them a great in-between pet.
