At a recent meet-and-greet, Carly Pearce had a moment that she—and many of us—won’t soon forget. She met someone incredibly special: a 21-year-old fan named Jacob, whose story touched everyone in the room.

Jacob shared that he was diagnosed with stage three cancer last year. It’s the kind of news that shakes your world. But through the pain, uncertainty, and treatments, Jacob found a source of strength in Carly’s album Hummingbird. He told Carly that her music gave him hope—something to hold on to when things felt impossible. Her lyrics helped him believe that he could overcome it.

Jacob’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. After going through treatment, doctors told him it didn’t work. He wasn’t sure he’d even make it to Carly’s show. But his nurses believed in him so much that they stepped in and made it happen. They bought him a ticket so he could be there in person, standing face-to-face with the artist who had unknowingly walked with him through his darkest days.
