Walker Hayes took to Instagram to mark the 5th anniversary of his daughter’s death.
Oakleigh Klover tragically passed away during delivery on June 6, 2008, when a rare rupture of the uterus cut off blood flow to the baby, suffocating her. Hayes later told PEOPLE it was “the worst day of my life.”
“You just never expect that you’re going to be burying your child,” he shared.

Hayes also told the outlet at the time that the hardest part was simply leaving the cemetery. “It’s not easy to just say goodbye,” he shared, “even though she’s not there.”
Walker, his wife Laney, and their six other children returned to the gravesite on the 5th anniversary of her birth and death. They marked the occasion with a photo of the family’s feet gathered around the gravestone which bears a quote from C.S. Lewis, “I was made for another world.”
