The emotional trailer for Jelly Roll’s Hulu documentary, “Jelly Roll: Save Me,” dropped on Tuesday.
In the clip, the singer shares, “I came out of jail with a plan. I was going to put every piece of energy I had into music. It’s almost like something just clicked right there.”
He says, “I’ve been a drug addict, I’ve been a stealer… I’m really a street kid who didn’t have any self-worth. I don’t know if I thought I deserved a better life, but I was willing to do whatever it took to have one.”
In between clips showcasing his rise to fame, Jelly shares, “They said I was too fat to be in the music business. They said my voice wasn’t cool enough. These are all mountains we had to conquer.”
He goes on to explain why he chose to release this documentary. “The biggest demon in my life is my mental health. Music was my Hail Mary. I feel like I owe it to my people to give them hope,” he shares. “If I wasn’t a musician, I’d be dead. Who would’ve thought I could help people? I needed help, I still need help.”
“Jelly Roll: Save Me” hits Hulu on May 30th.
Jelly Roll also released the tracklist for his upcoming album, “Whitsitt Chapel.”
The 13-song list includes songs co-written with Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, HARDY, and more. In addition, Brantley Gilbert and Struggle Jennings join him on “Behind Bars,” and Lainey Wilson recorded “Save Me” with him.
