A little league baseball team is heading to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in Anderson, South Carolina thanks to Morgan Wallen.
The team is from Waverly, Tennessee, which was devastated by a flood last year that left over 20 people dead and wiped out entire apartment buildings, schools, and businesses. Following their state championship win, the team was invited to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series and Morgan Wallen stepped up to help pay for the team’s expenses.
Morgan is a Tennessee native and baseball is his favorite sport so when he heard the team won the state championship, he decided to cover the cost of new uniforms, travel, food, room, and board.
“Morgan covered their room and board, their experiences, you know, souvenirs. They’re not going to want for anything,” assistant Coach Steven Wilson told Music Mayhem. “I can’t explain how much it actually helped these kids after what they’ve been through.”
“These kids, they’ve lost their schools. They’re in temporary schools right now, most of them are,” Wilson continued. “They’re several of them who come from single parent households and I know every one of them are Morgan Wallen fans. They got the little mullet haircuts, a couple of them do. It just means the world. The team winning uplifted the community and Morgan doing this to help these kids out… His support is just tremendous.”
Morgan sent the team a video message saying,”I also know that this has been an extremely hard year for y’all and that you had to pull together to make it through to this point.”
“So, your story is just inspiring, it’s inspired me, it’s made me proud especially since you’re from the same area as me,” Wallen continued. ”I really am proud of y’all. I also played baseball for a really long time in my life, it’s my favorite sport and teamwork is everything. My team nowadays is my band and crew and from my team to yours we want to send y’all to South Carolina and we also want to wish y’all the best. Hope y’all have a great time and we hope you win and we’ll be cheering y’all on from right here in Tennessee. Good luck!”
To thank the country singer, some of the team members got Morgan Wallen-inspired mullets!
This isn’t the first time Wallen stepped in to help the residents of Waverly. He hosted a one-night-only concert in September 2021 that raised $725,000 for The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund to assist flooding victims.
I have been touched and heartbroken by the stories I’ve heard from the recent flooding and it’s impact in Middle Tennessee. Wanted to do my part to help. Proud that this is my first official show in such a long time. Hope you guys can make it on such short notice. pic.twitter.com/lpq9sFhpZx
